Food Benefits for YOU
Thanks to the city's policy of universal free lunch, all NYC public school families, regardless of household income, will receive funds to help cover the cost of missed school meals during remote instruction from home. Families should receive up to $82/month for each child who was learning from home one to 12 days. No sign up is required.- Be sure we have your correct mailing address on file.
Ensuring schools have accurate, up-to-date information can help avoid delays in issuing P-EBT benefits. - Be sure to keep your P-EBT card if you received one during the first round of P-EBT.
- Students who are newly eligible for free and reduced-price meals must fill out a school meals application and return it to our main office to be eligible for P-EBT benefits.
This includes those who:- Did not receive P-EBT last school year, but their household income is at or below the income limits for free or reduced price school meals.
- Are new to the school district, including kindergarten students; prekindergarten students, if receiving school lunch through the National School Lunch Program; and students who have moved to the area.
- Have experienced job or income loss at any point in the school year.

- You received P-EBT for last school year.
- Your child received free or reduced-price school meals in the 2019-2020 school year.
- Your child attends a school using the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) to offer free meals to all students.
- One or more people in your household receives benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

P-EBT benefits will be issued automatically by the NYS Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (NYSOTDA).
School Food
The New York City Department of Education offers free breakfast, lunch and afterschool meals to all NYC public school students during the school year.
Meals are provided at no cost to our parents through federal funds. If you choose to send in lunch with your child, please contact the school administrator for protocols. If your child has food allergies, please advise your teacher immediately and indicate it on the blue card.

Support School Funding
You do not need to apply for your child to receive meals. However, we do ask families to complete Family Income Inquiry Form(Open external link), which helps schools receive money for their programs.
Your school will send a copy of this form home with your child, or you can get it from your school’s main office.
