- For families who have already used MySchools, they just need to log in! They can re-set their MySchools password if needed. If a family logs into MySchools and does not see their child’s name on the Dashboard page, that’s okay--they just need their welcome letter, and they should follow the instructions there.
- For public school families (including charter) who have never used MySchools before, their personalized welcome letter will help them set up their MySchools accountand add their child using their unique account creation code. School staff can identify which families do not have an account in MySchools by exporting their student list from their My Current Students page and reviewing the Guardian Account column.
- Instructions to export current students can be found in Section 3 of the MySchools Guide for Staff.
- Instructions to export current students can be found in Section 3 of the MySchools Guide for Staff.
-
For non-public schools (private, parochial, independent, etc.) families who are not already on your My Current Student page, school staff must add these students to MySchools.
- Instructions on adding current students to MySchools will be found in Section 3 of the MySchools Guide for Staff. After students are added to the My Current Students page, their welcome letter will become available and they can apply for a Summer Rising seat.

3-K and Pre-K Applications
We’re excited to share that both the 3-K and pre-K applications will be opened, January 15! Families will be notified when the application is open. Once the application opens on MySchools, there may be times of high site traffic.
NYC children born in 2021 are eligible for pre-K for fall 2025, and those born in 2022 are eligible for 3-K. To best support families during the application period, we’re providing you with tips and best practices to help guide you if families have questions!
Application Tips:
· Families can apply in one of three ways (online at MySchools, by calling (718) 235-2009 or in person at a Family Welcome Center). Programs cannot submit applications or create accounts on the behalf of children.
· The application is NOT first come first serve. This means that regardless of if a family applies the day the application opens or the day it closes, all applications will be processed as on time. There is no incentive for submitting earlier.
· Families should list programs on their application in true preference order. A child’s admissions priority does not change no matter where they rank that program on the application.
· Families can apply to any school they are interested in their child attending. Families can apply to different programs across setting types and seat types, and outside of their zone, district, or borough etc. There is no limit to how many programs a family can apply to – a family can list as many choices as they are interested in on their application, and they will be considered for admissions at all schools they list.
· 3-K and pre-K are offered in four different settings:
o New York City Early Education Centers (NYCEECs): community-based organizations that partner with NYC Public Schools to provide 3-K and pre-K
o District Schools: NYC Public Schools elementary schools, some of which offer 3-K and pre-K
o Pre-K Centers: NYC Public Schools operated early childhood centers that only offer 3-K and pre-K
o Family Child Care providers (FCCs): home based programs that offer 3-K by a licensed child care provider (3-K only)
· Within the different settings, there are three seat types that differ in hours and eligibility requirements. Some schools may offer more than one seat type, and families can list each seat type as a separate choice on their application:
o School Day seats are open to all NYC children. These seats are free and provide early care and education for 6 hours and 20 minutes per day during the school year (typically September to June). This seat type is offered in all settings.
o Extended Day and Year seats are free or low cost and provide up to 10 hours of early care and education a day, year-round, including the summer. Eligibility for Extended Day and Year seats is based on family income and needs and is confirmed by completing a Child Care application. This seat type is offered at NYCEECs and FCCs.
o Head Start seats are free and provide up to 10 hours of early care and education a day, year-round, including the summer. Eligibility for Head Start seats is based on family income and needs and the program will work with the family directly to confirm eligibility. This seat type is offered only at NYCEECs.
Best Practices & Policies:
· Children do not need to be toilet trained to attend 3-K or pre-K.
· All NYC children born in 2021 and 2022 are eligible and welcome to apply to 3-K or pre-K. This includes students learning English, immigrant families, students with accessibility needs and/or disabilities, LGBTQ students and students who live in temporary housing.
